Best Performers For The Least Money
On this page we'll tell you what we think are the
best performing snowblowers for the least money in each of 3
categories - single stage electric, single stage gas and two stage
gas. Remember, we're telling you what is the best bang for the
buck in each category. We're not saying you can use a single
stage electric to clear 12 inches of snow from a 200 foot driveway.
Only you can determine what type of snow thrower you need. Once
you do that, here's what we think are the best buy snowthrowers. Take a look.
Two Stage Gas SnowBlower
We think the biggest bank for the buck in this category
is the Craftsman 88957.
The two-stage gas Craftsman 88957, available
at Sears for $589, uses the same impeller design as larger
Craftsman and Troy-Bilt models, putting it into a smaller
24-inch machine. You lose some removal speed, throwing distance,
and the easier steering of trigger controls but gain the
benefits of less weight, easier storage, quieter running and
save $300-$500. Even at a price less than $600, you still
get electric starting and the performance of a two stage
snowblower.

Single Stage Gas Snowblower
The single-stage gas Toro Power Clear 210R
38587, at $599, is about as good as it gets, dollar for dollar,
in a single stage gas snowthower. This 21-inch model has a
rubber-tipped auger that scoops and throws snow and provides
some pulling power. It weighs 73 pounds and takes roughly the
same storage space as a lawnmower. An easy-to-use handle also
rotates the chute from the operator's position. Consider it if
you have a relatively flat driveway without gravel, want a snow
blower you can lift onto decks, and can give up some speed and
throwing distance.

Single Stage Electric Snowblower
If you don't expect it to
handle anything beyond a few inches and are clearing a small
walkway or porch, we have a recommendation for a snow blower.
Don't plan on using it for a driveway. It is just not
designed for such a big job. So with those thoughts in
mind, the single-stage electric Toro 1800 Power Curve 38025 at
$300, is a top-scoring electric snow thrower and the best use of
your dealer if a single stage electric is what you need. Because it uses an
electric motor, you don't have to worry about fueling and
tune-ups. At only 24 pounds, it features easy handling and
lifting onto a deck or porch.
